Gmail Bringing Material You Redesign, Gmail Only View, and Storage Used Indicator on Mobile

Gmail is undergoing a series of design updates that include a Material You makeover for Gmail on the web, an exclusive Gmail view, and a ‘Storage used’ indicator for Gmail on Android and iOS.

The Material You redesign in Gmail for the web is transforming the traditional white background into a subtle shade of blue. This redesign offers users the ability to tailor their Gmail experience by selecting the apps they want to incorporate into their customized view.

Google’s email service, Gmail, is getting a fresh look. The web version of Gmail will now feature a Material You redesign, replacing the familiar white background with various light blue tones. This includes a darker shade for the left navigation menu, blue for read emails, and white for unread emails.

Additionally, Gmail is introducing a Gmail-only interface, allowing users to specify which apps they want to include in their view by customizing their app settings. Users can also opt for a Gmail-exclusive setup. While some users will automatically see the new Gmail layout, they still have the option to switch back to the previous design.

Furthermore, Gmail for Android and iOS is adding a ‘storage used’ indicator to help users manage their Google account space. In the mobile app, users can access this feature by tapping the account switcher icon in the top right corner. The storage used details are displayed under the “Manage your Google Account” section, represented by a cloud icon in Google’s signature colors. It provides information about the percentage of storage used and the subscribed storage capacity.
